Embracing Uncertainty:

Here we are. January of 2021. I’ve spoken with a lot of friends over the last couple of weeks as I’ve worked through my new year goal setting and past year reflection.  A couple have laughed and poked at me for even taking the time to make plans with all the uncertainty around us. With each new morning offering a new challenge, I can see their point.

If anything was certain in 2020, it was uncertainty.  Not only on a personal level, but also for our extended family, friends, and heck, even the world. Difficulty seemed to hover around every corner and in every area of our lives and left us questioning our core beliefs. Truly, I can only hope that as much as possible, the year was kind to you and your loved ones.

I feel the turmoil throughout my own life and those I care about. The last 12 months have been hard. I took actions I never planned on and faced doubts with every decision. I spent longer than I’m proud of waiting. Waiting for things to get better, waiting for things to stabilize, waiting to get a handle on new situations, and just for a second, wanting to take a breath and just stop. But maybe that’s the point of the process.

Maybe, just maybe, the way forward is to embrace that uncertainty.

We don’t know what 2021 has in store for us. But we can choose, throughout our day, how we will react and what action we will take next. Small steps, in and of themselves, but ones that could offer the biggest impact, and might, just maybe, give us that second to stop and breath.
