Thanks to everyone who cheered me on when I posted about being unable to pick up my yarn since my FatBoy Kitty passed. You helped. I dived into my basket and finished a scarf that had been incomplete since August. So, yay! And it inspired me to add a little more to my goals this year.
If you've hung around my livejournal, blogger, or old website for any length of time you are familiar with my posts on donating scarves and other handmade items through services such as Knit Your Bit, Scarves with a Purpose, and Soldiers' Angels. The flaw, I've come to realize, is that I post about these charities at the end of the year, not the beginning when most of us are looking for yarn projects.
So, this year, I'm doing things a little different. I've set myself a crafting goal to crochet 5 new scarves that I will donate to my local homeless shelter. For a dedicated yarn crafter, this goal isn't very lofty. But, I'm working off muscle memory rather than vision, so I'm giving myself room to err. Should I finish my goal early, well, I can always do more. I'll keep you posted.
Have you set any crafting or charity goals for yourself this year? I'd love to hear if you donate your work to any local organizations.
