Bookshare.org to the rescue once again!

Yay! I'm dancing a jig in front of my computer! I just opened an email from Bookshare.org, informing me my book request for Merlin's Keep has been chosen to be added to their library! Some of you might be scratching your heads and asking: "What? I can buy this on Amazon." Well, you can. And I could. But I wouldn't be able to read it. This is one of the many books I hated to lose when I dismantled my library because I have been unable to replace it in a digital or audio format through my local library, Amazon, or the NLS Talking Book Service for the Blind.

It will still take a few months for Bookshare to process the book and make it available, but I can't tell you how excited I am to even *think* I'm going to be able to spend time with this old favorite.

I've shared about Bookshare.org before, but if you, or someone you know has a reading barrier, whether it's dyslexia, learning disabilities, visual impairments, physical disabilities, or other difficulties accessing written material (including textbooks), through Bookshare we can customize our experience and read in ways that work for us.

Even if you don't need their services yourself, you can always volunteer to contribute your skills and passions to help people with print disabilities read. From scanning and proofreading, to describing images, to providing support for Bookshare® teachers and families.

One of the hardest parts of facing my visual impairment was the fear I would no longer be able to read the variety of materials I always had.  While Bookshare is only one of the tools I use to continue to enjoy my love of the written word, it is one that continues to make a difference in my life.
