Do you play spot the trope at your house?

Honestly, this whole post was originally destined to be a toss-away one-liner comment to share my abounding glee at discovering a time-honored trope in a movie. Okay, it was actually my abounding glee at *recognizing* this trope in the movie and feeling absolutely flabbergasted that this beat-to-death old horse of a trope found new life. Then came the hated pause where the old brain said: wait a sec, here be spoilers.

Curse you, brain! Curse you!

Even worse? The spoiler is from a movie that came out in September of 2021. But, since we just saw the movie, should I assume everyone else out there has? Usually we are about two years behind the rest of the viewing public. But, all glee aside, I don't think I should. Sure, it's out there all over the net and can be found if looked for, but why ruin the fun for any other stragglers?

Sigh. I'll be good, but I really want to stand up and shout to the heavens: OMG! Why didn't anyone tell me that the latest Bond film is based on the XXXXXX XXXX trope? No one said a word! We are still working out how we feel about this chez Munder, lol. And it definitely makes us raise an eyebrow at those who love to indulge in trope-shaming, because this proves the point: we loves our tropes. It doesn't matter if they are found in a book or a film. Tropes exist to offer us a familiar and guaranteed comfort and enjoyment in what are increasingly uncertain times.

Movie nights have now become unbearable at our house as we sit there with a notepad and start shrieking out tropes as we find them. It might become a drinking game. I'll keep you posted.

Do you play spot the trope in your house? What's a favorite trope you've spotted in an unexpected place?
